Place Value

Substitute the underlined digits and values to create new verses.

A one is only one when it's in the ones' place.

In the tens place, a one is worth ten.

And when the one is in the hundreds' place,

it's worth a whopping one hundred.

And in the next place over,

a one is ten times more.

That would be one thousand,

counting up the score.

Place value, base 10 is what we use

as the digits move to the left.

What is its place value?

Give it its value due.

All depends where the digit is set.

Odd or Even

words and music by Peter Sroka and David Greenbaum

Strolling on the sidewalk any given day,

the numbers on the buildings go a certain way,

two by two, more or less.

What comes next?  Can you guess?

Odd or even, odd or even - Are the numbers odd or even, odd or even?

Are the numbers odd or even?

Odd or even, odd or even - are the numbers odd or even, odd or even?

Are the numbers odd or even?

Even - There's no debate when they end in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8.

Odd - It is a sign, when they end in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9.

Now we're walking home from school.

On the opposite side, we can follow the rule.

The numbers change in the ones' place.

Easily, we solve the case.

Next time when you're on the street,

in a car or on your feet,

let the ones' place be your guide,

to identify the odd or even side.

The Difference

                          And Alcatraz, springtime

Student:             Characters, 12 seagulls.

__ seagulls squawk out to the bridge side of the stage.

Chorus:               Once upon a time there were 12 seagulls,

5 went to roost on Alcatraz.

Seagulls:             Goodbye, squawk, squawk.

They squawk over to Alcatraz.

Remaining

Seagulls:             Goodbye, squawk, squawk.

Chorus:               How many were left on the Bridge?            7!
